Service is one of the three pillars of the academy. As a doctoral student, I have had both the opportunity to benefit from the service that faculty and more advanced students have provided, and the opportunity to use my own skills and abilities to contribute to my department, my college, the professional associations to which I belong, and my community. I hope that I am able to continue this now in my new role as a junior faculty member.
